Israeli troops kill armed Palestinian man during Aqraba raid, IDF says

Israeli soldiers shot and killed a wanted Palestinian man during an overnight raid on the town of Aqraba, south of Nablus in the northern West Bank, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement issued on the morning of September 8, 2026. The military said troops had come to question a man it described as a member of a terrorist organisation, and that he threw an improvised Molotov cocktail and an improvised explosive device at them as they arrived at the building where he was staying. No soldiers were hurt.

Israeli reporting said the forces used a procedure known in Hebrew as "sir lahatz", literally pressure cooker: troops seal off a structure from all directions and progressively increase fire against it to force a suspect out, before entering. Palestinian media, as relayed by the Times of Israel, said the army fired shoulder-launched missiles at the building and brought in a bulldozer that demolished part of it. The Hebrew-language monitoring channel Abu Ali Express reported, citing Palestinian sources, that forces besieged the house for hours and destroyed part of it, and that the body was taken into Israel. Israel's practice of holding the bodies of Palestinians killed in such incidents is a recurring point of dispute, and the military statements published in this case did not address it.

The name of the man killed is not given identically across the material. The Times of Israel, citing the army, identified him as Abd al-Karim Muhammad Salem Khader. Abu Ali Express, citing Palestinian reporting, referred to him as Abd al-Karim Suleiman. The sequence of events is also described with differing emphasis. The IDF's English statement presents the knife as an attempted attack on soldiers; the Hebrew reporting says he was killed while holding a knife with which he intended to harm the force. The claim about missiles fired at the structure and the use of a bulldozer comes from Palestinian media as cited by the Times of Israel, not from the military.
