Wounded man in Usarin stabbing named as Netanel Yaakovs, 19

The wounded Israeli has been named and has given his own account from hospital. Ynet reported that he is Netanel Yaakovs, aged 19, and that he spoke about the struggle at the Maoz Yehuda farm after his condition stabilised, saying the knife broke and the assailant tried to keep stabbing him with the blade alone.

N12 reported him as saying he fought the man, punched him and pushed him away. In a further post, the same outlet reported that he chased the attacker after he fled and only then realised he had been hurt in the head, the neck and the hand. N12 reported that his parents said his condition is good and stable. Ynet quoted his parents calling for a hard hand against what they described as villages of murderers.

One account still describes the search as open. Abu Ali Express posted footage it described as the attacker escaping after the knife broke, saying the manhunt for him was continuing. That post sits alongside the same outlet's earlier report, and the army's statement, that the assailant had already been located and killed. Neither the attacker's identity nor a Palestinian account of the events has appeared in this material.

The IDF spokesperson has now confirmed the killing in an official statement, which the article's earlier material lacked. The spokesperson said soldiers who had set up roadblocks across the area located the attacker beside his vehicle in the area of Qabalan, that he tried to stab them, and that a commander opened fire and killed him. Emanuel Fabian, the Times of Israel's military correspondent, reported the army as identifying the officer who fired as a company commander of the 411th Artillery Battalion.

There is a discrepancy in the army's own accounts of where this happened. An update posted by the IDF on X placed the encounter near the attacker's vehicle in the area of Idhna, a locality in the southern West Bank, while the spokesperson's Telegram statement and Israeli outlets place it at Qabalan, close to the scene of the stabbing. Abu Ali Express reported the location as the village of Qabalan, as did News.co.il.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a statement on the killing. The Times of Israel reported him as saying that no terrorist has a place to hide, praising the soldiers who engaged the attacker, and pledging to continue killing attackers, pursue those who dispatch them and destroy what he called terrorist infrastructure in Judea and Samaria. Israeli forces have killed the assailant. N12 reported that troops located the vehicle used by the attacker, that he tried to stab the soldiers who reached him, and that the company commander shot and killed him. Ynet reported in the same terms that the man was traced, attempted to stab soldiers and was killed, and News.co.il also reported that troops had killed him.

News.co.il reported that the assailant's phone was recovered at the scene and that his identity was known to the security forces, and that army units were operating in the village of Beita, close to where the attack took place. The same outlet reported that the closure applied to villages in the area and to the city of Nablus, and that the knife used in the attack came apart, with the handle separating from the blade during the repeated stabbing.

On the wounded man, N12 reported that Beilinson Hospital said he had arrived in its trauma room and that his condition was defined as moderate to serious. Ynet reported that he was stabbed while riding a Ranger utility vehicle, and that footage circulated showing the assailant leaving the scene. There has been no statement from the IDF spokesperson in this material confirming the killing, and no Palestinian source is quoted.

News.co.il reported that the attacker arrived in a commercial vehicle, drew a knife and demanded to know where the farm owner's weapon was, and stabbed him repeatedly when he got no answer. That same outlet's first bulletin had described the victim as lightly hurt, a description it revised in later posts. Ynet reported that the attacker fled the scene in a vehicle and quoted a description of the man being stabbed until the knife broke.

The wider picture reported abroad

The Times of Israel reported that Rescuers Without Borders, a volunteer emergency response organisation active in the West Bank, said a Palestinian came by vehicle to the Maoz Yehuda settlement farm near Usarin, stabbed a settler and fled, and that the man was in serious condition. The Jerusalem Post reported that one person was seriously wounded and that the army and Israel Police were responding.

Where Usarin is, and what a farm outpost is

Usarin is a Palestinian village in the northern West Bank, in the area Israelis call Samaria and which the army administers through its Samaria Brigade. Maoz Yehuda is a farm outpost, a small Israeli agricultural settlement of the kind that has spread across hilltops in the territory in recent years. Such outposts are typically home to a handful of families or young residents and are often built without the full authorisation of the Israeli planning system, unlike established settlements. They sit close to Palestinian villages, and friction between residents of the two is a recurring feature of the area.
