Israels Military Chief Holds Situation Assessment with Northern Local Government Leaders
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir met with northern local government leaders to assess the security situation and reinforce efforts to protect communities.
Jerusalem, 4 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, held a situation assessment and dialogue today (Thursday) with the Northern (local) Authorities’ Heads Forum and the IDF’s Northern Command General Staff Forum.
The Chief of Staff expressed appreciation to IDF fighters and Northern Command commanders for their achievements in the war so far, and emphasized that the IDF’s goal is to protect the northern communities, create a new security reality, and deepen the damage to Hezbollah.
In addition, he expressed appreciation to the heads of authorities for their leadership, partnership, and support throughout the war, and emphasized that the IDF will continue to stand by them and work in close cooperation for the security of the residents.
Zamir explained that he chose to hold a joint situation assessment in order to, “deepen the dialogue and strengthen the partnership,” adding that the military and the local governments, “have a common goal – protecting the residents and communities of the north and restoring peace and security over time.”
“We are working together, shoulder to shoulder for this,” he said.
“We are on multi-scene readiness and are looking at the situation in the entire Middle East, but are focused on the northern border,” added Zamir. “My directive is to concentrate the effort here – the bulk of the IDF’s capabilities and capabilities are in the northern arena. Even at this time, our forces continue to operate on the ground and with fire to destroy terrorist infrastructure and remove threats.”
