IDF Chief: Israel Wont Allow Enemy Forces on Syrian Border
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir toured the Syrian front, vowing to prevent hostile forces from establishing themselves along Israel's borders.
Jerusalem, 19 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir on Wednesday toured the Syrian front and conducted an operational assessment and reconnaissance.
Speaking to reservists and commanders in the 210th Division and the 474th Brigade, Zamir said, “We are closely monitoring developments and changes on the Syrian front. We will not allow hostile forces to establish themselves along our borders, and we will know how to deploy our power precisely, where and when necessary.”
He added, “We must prevent the development of terrorist threats while also preventing the emergence of a significant military threat along our borders.”
“We are monitoring developments and changes on the Syrian front, and we must prepare accordingly,” the Chief of Staff said, adding that in Syria “we have established a forward defensive zone that serves as a buffer along the front of the communities, where our forces are operating.”
“We are still engaged in a multi-front war, remaining vigilant and operating across all arenas. Escalation could develop in any of them, and we must remain constantly prepared for it,” Zamir concluded.
