New Ratings System Lets Israelis Rate Quality of Countrys Beaches

Israelis can now rate beach quality with the new "Sea Star" index from the Ministry of the Interior, covering maintenance, service, accessibility, and safety.

>>”>Jerusalem, 6 July, 2026 (TPS-IL) — With the start of summer vacation and the arrival of Hundreds of thousands of students and families to the beaches, the Ministry of the Interior is launching (pilot) the “Sea Star” index – a new rating system that shows the public the level of maintenance, service, accessibility, and safety at declared beaches.

The index, which was formulated by the Ministry of the Interior through the Tel Aviv and Central districts and in cooperation with the National Bathing Sites Division of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Health and local authorities, is designed to transform the operational and regulatory data of the beaches into accessible, clear and transparent information for the public.

As part of the index, various professional criteria are examined, including the level of safety, maintenance, accessibility, information to the public and cooperation between the relevant parties. The data is translated into a uniform score, and in the final weighting, each beach receives a clear and simple rating of 1 to 5 stars.
