First Woman Elected Head of Israel’s Surgical Association

Jerusalem, 23 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Dr. Katya Dayan, director of Surgical Department B at Wolfson, is the first doctor elected to head the Surgical Association in Israel – a field in which women still make up only 15% of surgeons. In her first interview since her appointment, she talks about the nurse who told her that “a real surgeon doesn’t ask for so many wires,” about the patients who were surprised, and about instilling excellence without a robot and with outdated infrastructure
