Jerusalem, 4 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — At the initiative of the Ministry of Health: Approximately 100 senior doctors and department managers from critical professions, including surgeons, intensive care physicians and anesthesiologists, as well as approximately 80 nurses and other staff members from the health professions, who were stuck abroad when the fighting with Iran began will return to Israel on Thursday on a special rescue flight departing from Athens.
Data compiled by the Ministry of Health indicates that at this stage, approximately 1,145 women and medical staff members from all professions are abroad, including 567 doctors (out of approximately 35,000 doctors with active licenses in Israel), 70 interns, 197 nurses, 139 health professionals, 27 staff members in the system, 37 administrative staff members, and 107 additional medical staff members.
So far, dozens of medical staff have returned with the assistance of the Ministry of Health and via ZIM ships, and many more are expected to return, as needed and according to the situation, some independently.
