Israel Moving to Energy Independence by Accelerating Installation of Solar Systems on Private Properties

Israel's Ministry of Energy is pushing for faster solar and storage system installation on private homes, offering incentives until end-2026.

Jerusalem, 16 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — In light of the war against Iran and the need to strengthen the energy security of households in Israel, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure is calling on the public to accelerate the installation of solar systems combined with storage on the roofs of residential buildings. These systems allow households to generate part of their electricity consumption independently, strengthen their energy independence, and ensure the availability of electricity even in emergency situations.

The Ministry emphasized that there are nine months left to take advantage of the increased rate for installing solar systems on the roofs of private homes, valid until the end of 2026 as part of the “100,000 Roofs” program . The optimal rate allows for a quick return on investment along with additional income from electricity production and a return of over 15% per year on the investment. Households interested in this can also receive full financing for the systems, thus profiting from day one without making any investment.

The data shows that the public is already beginning to respond to the move: since the launch of the program, there has been an average increase of about 40% in the installation of solar systems on residential roofs across the country.

Also at the national level, distributed electricity production on the roofs of private homes strengthens the stability and flexibility of the electricity system in Israel. During peak hours of solar production, up to half of Israel’s electricity consumption is supplied by renewable energies, mainly solar energy. Integrating storage systems allows electricity to be used even in the evening and during times of system load.
