Jerusalem, 29 January, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Ahead of Tu B’Shevat, the Jewish new year for the tress (a minor holiday) Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics published up-to-date data on the extent of plantings and the yield of orchards, based on data received from the Department of Obligations Dependent on Israel at the Chief Rabbinate. These data reflect the state of the agricultural sector in Israel and the connection between the Holy Land, the mitzvot that depend on the land, and the labor of farmers, said the Chief Rabbinate.

In the previous Hebrew year, 2024 – 2025, the area of new fruit tree plantings was estimated at approximately 22,463,000 square meters.

Notable declines were recorded in the grape industry, about 58.8%, and in avocado plantings, about 38.2%.

On the other hand, there was a significant increase of about 44% in almond planting areas.

In 2025, there was a decrease of approximately 3.4% in total orchard output, with citrus fruit accounting for approximately 31.7% of total output.

Tu B’Shevat is the fifteenth day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, which this year begins on the night of Sunday, February 1, 2026.
