Jerusalem, 23 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar appointed veteran diplomat George Deek as Special Envoy to the Christian World, a role aimed at strengthening Israel’s engagement with Christian communities globally, the Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.
Deek, who has 18 years of diplomatic experience, recently concluded his tenure as Israel’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan. He made history as the first Christian ambassador in Israel’s diplomatic corps and previously received the Foreign Ministry’s Distinguished Administrator’s Award.
A member of Jaffa’s Arab-Christian community, Deek has long been active in community affairs. His father, Joseph Deek, served for many years as chairman of the Orthodox Christian community in Jaffa and in Israel.
“The State of Israel attaches great importance to its relations with the Christian world and its Christian friends around the world. I am confident that George, a respected and experienced diplomat, will contribute greatly to deepening the friendship and strengthening the ties between the State of Israel and the Christian world,” Sa’ar said.
