Israeli-Arab Man Arrested After Stabbing Ramat Gan Religious Council Chairman

A 20-year-old Israeli-Arab man has been arrested after a violent stabbing of Ramat Gan religious council chairman Gedaliahu Ben-Shimon.

Jerusalem, 12 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — A 20-year-old Israeli-Arab man is in custody after stabbing the chairman of the Ramat Gan religious council on Thursday.

Security footage showed the suspect stab Gedaliahu Ben-Shimon on a sidewalk in Ramat Gan, then kick him as he lay on the ground.

Ben-Shimon, who is active in the Shas party, had previously served as deputy mayor of Bnei Brak. According to Magen David Adom, Ben-Shimon was evacuated for hospitalization in critical condition.
