Israel Seizes 780 Kg of Meat From Illegal Slaughter Ahead of Holidays

Jerusalem, 19 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli authorities seized approximately 780 kilograms of meat from 26 lambs slaughtered illegally outside a licensed slaughterhouse in the Israeli-Arab city of Shfaram, the Ministry of Agriculture said.

The meat was produced without veterinary supervision, including required inspections and oversight of hygiene, refrigeration and transportation. Due to concerns over public health, a veterinarian ordered the entire shipment destroyed.

The butcher shop owner, who has previously been arrested, was summoned for questioning and is expected to face a fine.

the Ministry said it is increasing enforcement ahead of the High Holidays. Rosh HaShanah begins at sundown on September 11.
