Jerusalem, 10 December, 2025 (TPS-IL) — President of Israel Isaac Herzog met this morning, wednesday, december 10, with the US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, at the President’s Residence in Jerusalem. The meeting was also attended by Israel’s Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon.

The President thanked Ambassador Walz for his “central role” in leading the diplomatic efforts that contributed to the “historic” Security Council Resolution 2803 last month which endorsed the American government’s future plans for Gaza.

The two also discussed the importance of the full implementation of the resolution, and of US President Donald Trump’s peace plan, including the “urgent” obligation to return the last abducted person, First Sergeant Ran Gvili, an October 7 hero who saved hundreds, whose remains are still being held captive by the Hamas terrorist organization in Gaza.

“You have a very important role, because you have to steer the implementation of the Security Council resolution, which is nothing short of historic, and it creates a key point for the day after – a great vision of President Trump, whose efforts we greatly appreciate here, and are grateful for,” Herzog told Waltz.

“As you mentioned, President Trump’s peace plan was absolutely historic,” said Waltz. “And we have to give credit, where credit is due – to President Trump, Secretary Rubio, and his special envoys Witkoff and Kushner. It was truly a team effort, and there will always be some who criticize it.”

Waltz was also emphatic about need for a Hamas free Gaza adding, “I want to be clear – Hamas must go. President Trump was clear – it will happen the easy way or the hard way, but the terrorist organization Hamas – will be no more. What we cannot do – and what we are determined to prevent – is what I call ‘the definition of madness’: a situation in which Hamas survives, rebuilds itself, the international community pours billions into reconstruction, Hamas attacks again, and Israel has no choice but to respond.”
