Israel Road Accidents Fall Sharply in July, but Fatalities Remain Elevated
In July 2026, Israel saw a sharp decline in road accidents and casualties, though fatalities were still above the 2022-2024 average.
Jerusalem, 24 August, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported that 869 people were injured or killed in 474 road accidents in July 2026, including 38 fatalities in 36 fatal crashes. The Number of accidents and casualties declined sharply from July 2025, although the number of fatalities remained above the July average for 2022-2024. While road accidents and casualties have declined, fatalities remain above the recent three-year average.
The number of accidents fell 28.4% from July 2025, when 662 accidents were recorded, and was 41.7% below the July average for 2022-2024. Total casualties declined 27.0% year-on-year and were 39.6% below the three-year average. The number of people seriously injured fell 36.8% compared with July 2025.
July’s death toll of 38 was 11 lower than in July 2025 but nine higher than the 2022-2024 average. From January through July 2026, 255 people were killed in road accidents nationwide, a 6.3% decline from the same period last year.
