Plan for National Headquarters for Artificial Intelligence Approved

Israel's government approved a preliminary plan for a National Headquarters for Artificial Intelligence, focusing on human capital, supercomputing.

Jerusalem, 17 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The government of Israel unanimously approved Prime Minister Netanyahu’s proposal for a preliminary work plan for the National Headquarters for Artificial Intelligence.

“This is a strategic move designed to ensure Israel’s technological superiority, accelerate development in the field of AI, and maintain Israel’s position among the leading global powers,” said the Prime Minister’s Office.

The work plan will focus on three main topics:

1. Investments to deepen human capital in academia – returning experts and a program to convert to a computer science degree.

2. Development and acceleration of supercomputing infrastructure – making 5,000 GPUs available per year for 6 years (2027-2032), of the most advanced model, for use in academia, the public sector, and supporting startups and the economy. The move will ensure that the State of Israel has infrastructural capacity for a strategic state resource through international partnerships.

3. Initiating an initial move to establish acceleration centers for the development and promotion of artificial intelligence applications – the move will leverage the strengths > 🇮🇱🇦🇷”>of the State of Israel and the use of artificial intelligence as a fundamental capability to deal with the strategic challenges facing the State of Israel and its citizens.
