Jerusalem, 13 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — All bills slated for preliminary readings in the Knesset were pulled from Wednesday’s agenda amid concerns within the governing coalition that it lacked the votes to advance legislation. Opposition faction leaders had earlier announced they would also withdraw their proposals, saying the step would highlight the coalition’s inability to command a parliamentary majority.
The decision comes in the wake of announcement by the Degel HaTorah faction of the United Torah Judaism party that it no longer sees itself as part of the coalition. Members of the Orthodox (Haredi) parties are angry with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s failure to pass controversial legislation exempting yeshiva students from military service.
