CBS estimated Israel’s population at 10.178 million residents as of the start of 2026. Of these, 7.771 million were Jews and others (76.3% of the total population), 2.147 million were Arabs (21.1%), and 0.26 million were foreign nationals (2.6%).

During 2025, CBS reported that Israel’s population grew by 1.1%, the same growth rate as in 2024. CBS said the decrease in the growth rate was mainly due to the high number of Israelis emigrating from Israel in 2024.

CBS reported that during 2025 approximately 182,000 babies were born (approximately 76% to Jewish and “other” mothers, and approximately 24% to Arab mothers). The international migration balance in 2025 was negative and stood at approximately 20,000. At the end of 2025, CBS said the population grew by approximately 112,000 people: approximately 132,000 from natural increase (births minus deaths) and a decrease of approximately 20,000 from international migration.

CBS reported that during 2025 approximately 50,000 Israelis died, approximately 2,000 fewer than in 2024 (approximately 52,000). The death rate was 5.2 per 1,000 residents in 2025, compared with 5.3 per 1,000 in 2024.

Independence Day 2026

On the eve of Israel’s 78th Independence Day (19 April 2026), CBS reported that Israel’s population was 10.244 million: 7.790 million Jews and Others (76%), 2.157 million Arabs (21.1%), and 296,000 foreigners (2.9%).

CBS states that at the establishment of the State of Israel the population was 806,000, and that today’s population is more than 12.5 times that figure.

The previous Independence Day release (30 April 2025) reported 10.094 million residents, including 7.732 million Jews and Others (76.6%), 2.114 million Arabs (20.9%), and 248,000 foreigners (2.5%).

How CBS defines the groups

CBS defines Arabs, for these releases, as Muslims, Arab Christians, and Druze.

CBS defines Others as non-Arab Christians, other religions, and those registered as not classified by religion in the Population Register, mainly immigrants who immigrated under the Law of Return or family reunification but are not defined as Jews in the Population Register.

CBS notes that data on foreigners in the Independence Day 2026 release relate to the end of 2025, and that starting in 2023 population estimates also include foreigners who stayed in Israel legally during the year of the estimate.
