On the occasion of Israel’s 78th Independence Day, and as every year, flag bearers from all IDF branches and commands will participate in the Torch Lighting Ceremony.
All the formations that the flag bearers will perform have been adapted to the spirit of the times and the guiding compass of the ceremony, which is “Powers of Renewal,” symbolizing the achievements of the State of Israel in the past year and groundbreaking technological innovation.
After two months of planning and rehearsals under the shadow of Operation “Lion’s Roar,” approximately 125 flag bearers will march on the ceremony plaza. The participants in the ceremony represent the Israeli mosaic – from all its parts and shades as a symbol of unity among the people.
The ceremony commander, Colonel (Res.) Shimon Deri, said: “This year’s rehearsals were conducted in a limited format and in accordance with the directives of Operation ‘Lion’s Roar.’ I am excited to command the Torch Lighting Ceremony at this particular time. The ceremony is composed of talented flag bearers who, during rehearsals, operated in their units and now represent them with honor on this stage.”
“The theme chosen this year, ‘Powers of Renewal,’ is connected to the verse with which I chose to open the ceremony – ‘And the sons shall return to their borders.’ Powers of Renewal symbolizes for me the excitement and strength to command the first ceremony where we will not have to open with a prayer for the return of the captives and the missing.”
