Israel Tests Fusion Energy Potential for Critical Water Infrastructure

Israeli startup nT-Tao and national water company Mekorot will explore using compact fusion reactors to power critical water infrastructure in Israel.

> 🇮🇱🇦🇷”>Jerusalem, 30 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli fusion energy startup nT-Tao signed a memorandum of understanding with Israel’s national water company Mekorot to explore using compact fusion reactors to power critical water infrastructure, the companies announced.

The partnership will examine fusion-based energy systems for desalination plants, wastewater facilities and other water infrastructure, with plans to establish a dedicated research and development center and pilot facility in Israel.

Mekorot, Israel’s largest civilian electricity consumer, said the move is aimed at reducing energy costs and improving resilience for essential services. The company’s annual electricity costs approach NIS 1 billion ($340 million) and account for roughly 4% of Israel’s total power demand.

nT-Tao is developing compact fusion systems designed to provide continuous on-site power for industrial and infrastructure applications.
