Duty Free Importation of 400 Tons of Honey Planned to Ease Shortages During Upcoming Holiday Season
Israel's Ministry of Agriculture is allowing 400 tons of duty-free honey imports to reduce consumer prices for the Jewish holiday season.
Jerusalem, 11 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is published for public comment a competitive procedure for the import of honey exempt from customs duties, in the amount of 400 tons. The Ministry said the move is intended to reduce consumer prices of honey and allow the public to enjoy honey at a reduced price in preparation for the upcoming Jewish holiday season in September, during which honey is widely used during holiday meals to signify having a sweat new year.
Importation will be permitted from all member states of the World Trade Organization (WTO). As part of the competitive procedure, the lower the price the importer or retailer commits to for the consumer, the larger the import quota it will receive. The honey will be marketed in packages of up to 1.5 kg and will be marked on the shelves with clear signage that will display the price of the product, in order to ensure full transparency for the consumer.
