Jerusalem, 24 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Ministry said Sunday it summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Spanish Embassy in Israel for a clarification meeting following what it described as “severe acts of violence” by Spanish authorities against Flotilla Participants.
The Ministry said it raised concerns over what it called hypocrisy in Madrid’s response and questioned why Spanish leaders have not condemned the actions.
Clashes broke out at Bilbao Airport on Satuday as flotilla participants returned home. Footage showed Spanish security personnel beating the participants with batons.
“Spanish authorities had to deal only with provocations carried out by some of the flotilla participants against Israel – whereas Israel faced far more serious provocations by many hundreds of flotilla participants during each of the last six flotillas – and yet the Spanish authorities resorted to severe violence that was not employed by Israel,” the Foriegn Ministry said.
