Prison Officer, 2 Inmates Arrested for Corruption

Israel Police arrest Prison Service officer and two inmates on suspicion of corruption, following months-long covert investigation.

Following a covert investigation – a Prison Service officer and two prisoners were arrested on suspicion of committing corruption offenses. For several months, a covert investigation has been conducted by officers of the National Unit for Prison Investigations (YAHAS) in Lahav 433, in cooperation with the Prison Service. The investigation began with information transferred from the Prison Service regarding suspicion of corruption offenses against a Prison Service officer who serves as a sector commander in one of the prisons in the country. This morning, with the transition to the overt phase of the investigation, the Prison Service officer and two prisoners were arrested, and additional involved parties are being questioned. According to suspicion, the suspect, who is a sector commander, collaborated with criminal elements and, through them, granted prisoners under his charge various benefits in exchange for favors he received from them and others. Subsequently, according to the needs of the investigation, the suspects will be brought for remand extension in court.
