Jerusalem, 14 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel Police on Monday announced the arrest of a senior league soccer player as part of an ongoing investigation into a criminal group operating in the northern tow nof Migdal HaEmek.

The player was detained by the agency’s Sports Gambling and Bribery Division on suspicion of involvement in illegal betting, alleged match manipulation, money laundering-related offenses, and tax violations. Authorities said the investigation indicates the player allegedly took part in repeated illegal gambling activity despite his status as an active competitor.

The probe is being conducted with the cooperation of the Football Association and has already led to several arrests. Police said additional arrests are expected.
