Jerusalem, 12 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Police busted a driving instructor and his student who were caught on camera both holding and using mobile phones during a driving lesson, authorities announced on Sunday.

“Distracted driving offenses, and in particular using a mobile phone while driving, are life-threatening offenses that can end in a fatal and tragic event,” the police said. “Especially when it comes to a driving lesson, where the instructor is required to pay maximum attention to what is happening on the road, and the student is at a critical learning stage and any moment of inattention could end in an accident.”

A patrol officer caught the two on Highway 79 near Nazareth during a crackdown on traffic offenses.

The driving instructor, in his forties from the north of the country, was issued an NIS 1,000 ($329) fine.

Using a cell phone while driving is illegal in Israel.
