Jerusalem, 21 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The mileage of motor vehicles (the number of kilometers they traveled) amounted to 67.5 billion kilometers (42 billion miles) in 2024, an increase of 2.4% compared to 2023. The average annual mileage of private vehicles is 14,700 kilometers (same as the figure in 2023). This is according to data released by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics.
Most of the annual travel was by private vehicles (80.3%), followed by trucks (12.4%).
The average annual mileage of private vehicles in 2024 was 14.7 thousand km (same as the figure in 2023). The total mileage of private vehicles was 54.2 billion km, an increase of 3.1% compared to 2023 (in 2023 there was an increase of 0.7% compared to 2022).
The average annual mileage of motorcycles increased by 4.4% and the total mileage of motorcycles increased by 7.3%.
Newer vehicles travel more. The newer the vehicle, the higher its average annual mileage.
New private vehicles owned by leasing companies traveled on average more than new privately owned vehicles.
A new privately owned, electrically powered vehicle travels on average further than its non-electrically powered counterpart (21,00 km compared to 15,800 km).
Within the group of new private electric vehicles, there is a small gap between the average annual mileage of a privately owned vehicle (21.2 thousand km) and the other types of ownership – leasing companies (22.4 thousand km) and company (21.5 thousand km).
New private vehicles powered by diesel traveled an average of 24.5 thousand kilometers; new private vehicles powered by electricity – 21.3 thousand kilometers; while, new vehicles powered by gasoline – 18.6 thousand kilometers.
