Jerusalem, 14 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israeli Health and environmental authorities reported Thursday that mosquitoes carrying the West Nile virus have been found in Ofakim, where three human cases have been confirmed since the start of the season. The ministry of Environmental Protection has instructed the local authority to step up monitoring, pest control, and public awareness efforts.

West Nile fever is usually mild but can cause serious complications such as encephalitis or meningitis in rare cases. Officials urged residents to remove sources of standing water, use repellents, install window screens, wear long, light-colored clothing, and report mosquito hazards to the municipal hotline.
