Breaking News

Jerusalem, 14 August, 2025 (TPS-IL) — A seismic survey is currently underway in the Amiaz Plain and Mount Sodom, located by the Dead Sea. The seismic survey is being carried out as part of a collaboration between the Geological Survey and the Geophysical Survey. The purpose of the survey is to simulate the extent of the Sodom salt layer underground for geological disposal purposes.

The seismic data collection in the field is being carried out by a trained team from the Geophysical Institute, which operates heavy equipment that injects energy into the ground and collects the returning waves, thereby producing an image of the subsurface.
