Jerusalem, 21 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and the Tamar Regional Council, are currently promoting what they call a “groundbreaking project” in the field of renewable energy – the establishment of a gasification facility to produce energy from organic waste streams at the Ein Bokek Waste Management Center (on the Dead Sea). The project was supported within the framework of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure’s “Pioneer and Demonstration” program, and its goal is to provide an innovative solution for the use of green energy while treating organic waste.
The facility is based on gasification technology that produces energy from organic waste streams, such as palm tree trimmings, sewage sludge, and organic municipal waste, so that it will be possible to produce electricity from these for the self-consumption of the Ein Bokek Municipal Waste Management Center, as well as to power the council’s operational electric vehicles.
The project is currently in an advanced stage, including the construction and installation of the facility at the Ein Bokek Air Base. The facility is expected to begin operating in the fall of 2025.
“This facility will constitute a technological model that can be expanded and implemented on a national scale, thereby promoting the use of gasification technologies to produce energy from additional waste streams, while making a significant contribution to the supply of clean and efficient energy,” said the ministries.
