Jerusalem, 27 November, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Newly appointed Chief Military Advocate of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) Itai Ofir was promoted on Thursday to the rank of Major General (two star general in the US) in a ceremony held at the “Rabin” Base (the Kirya – Israel’s version of the Pentagon) in Tel Aviv under the leadership of the IDF Chief of the General Staff, Major General Eyal Zamir, in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, and members of the General Staff Forum, commanders, and the Major General’s family. With the awarding of the rank, the Major General officially entered his role as the Chief Military Prosecutor.

Ophir succeeded Maj. Gen. Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, who resigned in the midst of a scandal over her having leaked a video of soldiers accused of assaulting a Palestinian security prisoner.
