Jerusalem, 22 May, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Jerusalem is moving toward a smart, accessible, and green public transportation revolution that will include a light rail network, smart buses, bike paths, and park-and-ride parking lots. Israel’s National Public Transportation Authority says this is part of a “comprehensive transportation vision for 2030.”
Jerusalem is already one of the leading cities in Israel in the use of public transportation. According to the Ministry of Transportation’s forecasts, by 2030 the rate of public transportation users is expected to double, thanks to extensive investment in infrastructure, connectivity, accessibility solutions, and smart and advanced service.
Before the end of the decade, residents of the capital and visitors to it will benefit from a smart, convenient, and accessible public transportation system, which will include an advanced light rail network with eight operational lines that will carry 600,000 passengers per day. A smart and interconnected system of bus lines will feed the light rail stations and operate on designated routes, while constantly improving the frequency and level of service.
The driving public will be offered approximately 10 “park and ride” parking lots at the main entrances to the city, including 8,500 parking spaces, with a direct connection to the light rail stations and exemption from payment for public transportation users.
The high-speed rail line that currently reaches Yitzhak Navon Station will be extended and will run along a 5.5-kilometer underground route, which will allow passengers to reach the very center of the city, with stations at Davidka Square and the Khan complex.
