Israel Sees No Major Food Shortages Ahead of High Holidays

Israeli Ministry assures no major food shortages for High Holidays, slight tomato and chicken limitations expected. Import supplements in place.

Breaking News

Jerusalem, 10 September, 2025 (TPS-IL) — The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry said Wednesday it does not expect major shortages of fresh produce, meat, or eggs during the upcoming High Holidays.

Officials noted a likely shortfall of tomatoes — about 20% of monthly consumption — and some drinking milk, both to be supplemented through imports. Fresh chicken may be briefly limited due to reduced slaughter days, though frozen poultry will be abundant. Stocks of olive oil, eggs, and beef are also sufficient.

The ministry added that other vegetables, including cucumbers, peppers, potatoes, carrots, onions, and leafy greens, are in good supply, as are fruits such as avocados, mangos, dates, grapes, citrus, and pomegranates.

The High Holidays start with Rosh HaShanah, the Jewish New Year, which begins at sundown on Sept. 22.
