Jerusalem, 9 March, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Mayors from 16 Israeli cities announced today that schools and kindergartens will remain closed for the week amid Iranian and Hezbollah rocket fire.
Municipal leaders from Rishon LeZion, Ramat Gan, Rehovot, Herzliya, Kiryat Ono, Ness Ziona, Kfar Saba, the Sdot Dan Regional Council, Raanana, Hod Hasharon, Yehud, Bat Yam, Holon, Netanya, Ramat Hasharon, and Givatayim met to assess the war’s impact agreed that educational institutions will stay closed until at least Sunday. They plan to reconvene on Friday to review the situation.
Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav confirmed his city’s schools will also remain closed.
Earlier in the day, Education Minister Yoav Kisch announced that schools in areas designated by Israel’s Home Front Command as a moderate security risk can reopen on Wednesday. However, authorities requesting exceptions are expected to receive approval from both the Home Front Command and the Education Ministry.
