Israel Speeds Up Time It Takes for New Immigrants to Get Certified in Architecture

Israel shortens architecture and engineering internship for new immigrants with 5+ years experience to just six months, facilitating faster integration.

Jerusalem, 11 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Labor said that the internship period for new immigrants in the engineering and architecture fields will be “significantly” shortened. With the amendment to the regulations, immigrants with at least 5 years of experience will only be required to complete a six-month internship in Israel.

This was done after consulting with the Engineering and Architecture Council and in coordination with the Ministry of Aliyah and Absorption.

Currently, the required internship period is 3 years (up to two years of experience gained abroad can be recognized). With the amendment to the regulations, immigrants with at least 5 years of experience will only be required to complete six months of internship in Israel, subject to the trainer’s confirmation that the immigrant has acquired the knowledge base and tools required to perform his or her role. In these cases, the immigrants will be recognized as meeting the conditions to take the licensing exam.

This relief is another layer in the activities of the Senior Division for the Regulation of Occupations at the Ministry of Labor, which has been working extensively in recent years to facilitate the integration of immigrants into employment in licensed professions. Among the reliefs promoted by the division: recognition of experience gained abroad, recognition of degrees studied in countries where immigration is common, creation of green tracks, relief in licensing exams – granting a factor of 5 points, promotion of projects for granting licenses in countries of origin and connection with employers, and more.
