Jerusalem, 14 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — At a government meeting held last week in Nof HaGalil in the Galilee, an incentive package to encourage immigration to the north of Israel and absorb immigrant doctors there was approved, totaling 24.5 million Shekels ($8.3 million) by 2030.
The incentive package includes assistance with rent, strengthening the absorption system in local authorities, and incentives for hospitals in the area to employ immigrants, totaling 2.88 million Shekels.
One of the key components of the decision is expanding assistance for new immigrants who choose to live in the area. According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Aliyah and Absorption in January 2026 among Diaspora Jews, the issue of housing was ranked as the main barrier to immigrating to Israel. 31% of respondents indicated that a rent subsidy would be a significant factor in making the decision to immigrate to Israel, and 18% responded that such a subsidy would allow them to immigrate immediately.
as part of the new decision, the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption will provide additional monthly assistance of 500 Shekels to new immigrants who immigrate after the date of the decision and choose to live in the core cities. This amount is in addition to the 2,000 Shekels currently provided in the periphery.
