Israeli Soldier Who Desecrated Christian Statue in Lebanon Sentenced to 21 Days in Prison

An Israeli soldier has been sentenced to 21 days in prison for desecrating a Christian statue in southern Lebanon.

Jerusalem, 11 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israeli Soldier filmed desecrating a Christian religious symbol in Southern Lebanon a few weeks ago was court martialed and sentenced to 21 days of imprisonment, and the soldier who filmed the incident was sentenced to 14 days of imprisonment.

The IDF said it “views the incident with great severity and respects freedom of religion and worship, as well as holy sites and religious symbols of all religions and communities.”

The soldier in question was filmed destroying a statue of Jesus after it had been knocked down in a local village.
