Jerusalem, 28 June, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Ruth Cohen-Dar has been appointed Israel’s first resident ambassador to Slovenia by the Appointments Committee for heads of Ministry of Foreign Affairs representations abroad.
Cohen-Dar currently serves as Israel’s non-resident ambassador to Slovenia and Malta. Previously, she served as Director of the Department for Combating Antisemitism and Preserving the Memory of the Holocaust at The Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Cohen-Dar has previously served in Israeli embassies in Washington, Vienna, and Warsaw.
Cohen-Dar’s appointment follows Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s decision to open Israel’s first resident embassy in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
Slovenia’s new Prime Minister Janša welcomed Sa’ar’s announcement of the opening of the Israeli embassy in Ljubljana saying, “Welcome to Ljubljana. Looking forward to a new era in Israel–Slovenia relations.”
The Ministry, under the Minister’s direction, is currently working to establish the embassy as soon as possible.
