Israel’s Foreign Minister Updates German, Italian and Greek Counterparts on Lebanon Negotiations

Jerusalem, 9 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar Thursday evening briefed German Foreign Minister Johannes Wadephul, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, and Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s instructions to open direct Negotiations with the Lebanese government on a ceasefire.
The Foreign Ministers of Germany, Italy, and Greece welcomed the decision, he said.
Earlier, Netanyahu issued a statement saying, “In light of the repeated requests from Lebanon to open direct negotiations with Israel, I instructed the cabinet yesterday to open direct negotiations With Lebanon at the earliest possible time.”
Netanyahu emphasized that the negotiations, should they come about, will focus on the disarmament of Hezbollah from its weapons and the regulation of peace relations between Israel and Lebanon.
