Jerusalem, 25 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Planning, Policy and Strategy Division at the Ministry of Transportation today (Monday) presented the overall strategic plan for transportation in > 🇮🇱🇦🇷”>Israel for 2050 to the Director General of the Ministry of Transportation, Moshe Ben Zaken, the management of the ministry, and the managements of all transportation corporations and infrastructure companies. This is a broad-ranging policy document intended to serve as a basis for planning and developing the transportation sector in Israel over the next 25 years.

The plan was prepared with the understanding that the State of Israel is facing unprecedented transportation challenges: one of the highest population growth rates in the developed world, increasing traffic congestion, accelerated technological changes, climate challenges, and the need to ensure functional continuity on land, in the air, and at sea.

According to forecasts, without a substantial change in transportation policy, the number of vehicles in Israel is expected to double and reach approximately 8.7 million vehicles by 2050. At the same time, the number of daily trips on public transportation is expected to increase from approximately 2.1 million to approximately 2.9 million trips per day, in a business-as-usual scenario.

The vision of the plan for 2050 is based on a transportation system that enables accessibility, connectivity and connectivity for all the needs of society and the economy, with reliability and a high level of service, while maintaining sustainability, safety and functional continuity on land, at sea and in the air.
