Two Israeli Citizens Arrested for Spying for Iran
Israeli citizens Sagui Chaiik and Asaf Shitrit were arrested for allegedly spying for Iranian intelligence, revealing personal details and agreeing to tasks.
Jerusalem, 20 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The Israel Police revealed this morning that the Shin Bet (Israel’s anti-terror General Security Service) and Police arrested two Israeli citizens, Sagui Chaiik (19) of Ness Ziona and Asaf Shitrit (21) of Beit Oved, on suspicion of acting on Behalf of Iranian intelligence agents.
Chaiik was arrested during March 2026, on suspicion of ties with Iranian elements and carrying out tasks under their direction.
As part of the investigation of Chaiik, it emerged that for several months he maintained contact with an Iranian foreign agent online, during which Chaiik revealed his identifying details and those of his family members. It further emerged that he agreed to undergo training in one of the Arab countries, and was even asked to recruit additional people to carry out tasks under their direction
Additionally, during his investigation, he admitted that he was assisted by another young man, Asaf Shitrit, for the purpose of carrying out a task for the foreign agent, and therefore he too was arrested for Shin Bet investigation
Indictments are expected to be filed against the two today.
