Jerusalem, 6 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — The IDF announced on Monday that it neutralized the artillery commander of the Imam Hussein Division and destroyed the organization’s main fire management headquarters in a strike carried out the previous day in Tehran.

According to the IDF, the target of the strike was Kamal Melhem, described as the division’s artillery chief, a close aide to division commander Yahya Hussein, and a key operative within the organization. The army stated Melhem was responsible for directing and advancing artillery fire plans against Israeli territory and forces.

It added that he also served as a central figure in weapons procurement, was involved in knowledge management within the division, and acted as the division commander’s chief of staff. The IDF reported the strike also targeted the division’s main headquarters for fire operations and resulted in the death of additional terrorists.

Israel described the Imam Hussein Division as a military force used by the Quds Force to strengthen the so-called “axis of resistance” and conduct terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops.

The military said Melhem’s killing is part of a broader campaign targeting the Imam Hussein Division’s command structure and operational capabilities.
