Jerusalem, 5 April, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Sunday that more than 1,000 Hezbollah terrorists have been killed in the fighting, estimating that the toll will continue to grow as Israeli forces expand operations in southern Lebanon.
During a tour and operational assessment near Ras Baida, the northernmost point where IDF troops are currently operating in southern Lebanon, Zamir stated that the military was delivering a “severe, widespread and multi-pronged” blow to Hezbollah’s personnel, command structure, infrastructure, weapons stockpiles, and economic assets.
“Hezbollah has lost over 1,000 terrorists, and that number will continue to rise,” Zamir said during a commanders’ briefing. “The damage to Hezbollah will only intensify.”
He added that any terrorist target and any site aiding terrorism from Lebanese territory would be struck, and that the area south of the Litani River has become a combat zone where Northern Command forces and the Air Force are systematically targeting Hezbollah operatives until the area is cleared of threats to Israel’s north.
Zamir emphasized that disarming Hezbollah remains a top Israeli goal and that the current campaign aims to achieve that objective.
He also said the IDF is building a forward defense line opposite northern Israeli communities and will maintain it “for as long as necessary,” while continuing efforts to reduce rocket and other high-trajectory fire from Lebanon.
