Jerusalem, 31 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Supreme Court on Sunday increased the prison sentence of a Nazareth resident convicted of spying for Iran and carrying out arson attacks, from six to seven years.
According to the indictment, Hamad Hammadi was recruited by an Iranian-run terror cell and acted under instructions relayed through operatives in Jenin, in Judea and Samaria, who themselves reported to an Iranian intelligence officer based in Jordan. He was convicted in 2024 after setting fire to four cars in Haifa in June 2023 and carrying out additional tasks for the network.
The ruling stressed that the offenses pose a risk to national security and agreed with the prosecutor’s position that the sentence should be increased to serve as a more effective deterrent.
