Intensive Care Unit at Ashkelon Hospital Closed After Incidents of Infection
Ashkelon's Barzilai Hospital ICU is temporarily closed following infection incidents, with patients moved as disinfection takes place under Ministry of Health.
Jerusalem, 23 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Following a number of infection incidents in intensive care at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, the Ministry of Health ordered the transfer of all patients from the unit until thorough disinfection and cleaning are performed on site.
The process began on Sunday, February 22, 2026, with completion expected to come in a few days. The patients on site were discharged according to their condition or transferred for treatment by an intensive care team within the internal medicine department.
The hospital is carrying out the required process, in the presence and under the guidance of the Infection Prevention Unit at the Ministry of Health.
Upon completion of the process, the Infection Prevention Unit at the Ministry of Health will conduct an on-site inspection. Only after the ministry’s approval will the unit open to receive patients.
