Jerusalem, 18 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Director of the Sustainable Energy Division at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, Ron Eifer, presented Israel’s strategic goals for 2040 at the “Smart Transportation” conference today (Monday), emphasizing the electrification of transportation as the most significant means of reducing national energy consumption.

According to the data presented by Eifer, oil and its distillates will constitute 35% of Israel’s total primary energy in 2040. On the other hand, if Israel succeeds in electrifying transportation, Israel’s reliance on oil products will drop to only 13%, which will be consumed as oil products such as plastic, and for the needs of transportation sectors that cannot be electrified by 2040 (such as aviation and shipping). At the same time, thanks to the energy efficiency of Electric transportation compared to transportation based on oil distillates, Israel’s total energy consumption is expected to be reduced by no less than 14%.

The ministry currently operates in three main avenues for electrifying transportation: private vehicles, trucks, and buses.
