The police established a contracting company for extortion – following a covert investigation, 11 suspects were arrested and detained for extorting protection money at construction sites in the Rishon LeZion area, including the Dan Region Wastewater Treatment Plant. Over the past year, a covert investigation has been underway by the South Protection Unit of Lahav 433, in cooperation with the Ayarot station, against several suspects residing in Hura, on suspicion of extortion, collection of protection money, and money laundering, along with additional suspects. As part of the investigation, Lahav 433 established a contracting company for construction and development work, and after some time, a payment request was received from the suspects for protection fees. Today, with the transition to the overt phase of the investigation, detectives from the South Protection Unit of Lahav 433, along with Border Police fighters and officers from the Southern District, raided 10 locations across the country and arrested suspects for extortion, as well as owners of security companies who provided accounting cover for payments collected from the victims.
