Jerusalem, 14 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security reported that, a “targeted enforcement” on the Haifa coast led to the capture of fishermen operating illegally, including fishing in a reserve, without a license and during a prohibited period, in order to protect the fish resource.

during the activity, an illegal net was also located in shallow water, the suspects were questioned and their equipment was seized.

The breeding season is the critical period for the renewal of the fish population in the Mediterranean Sea, said the Ministry.

During this period, the fish reproduce and produce new offspring, and therefore the restrictions are intended to allow for the natural renewal of the fish population and preserve the sea as a vital natural resource for future generations.
