Jerusalem, 11 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Women’s advocacy groups expressed outrage Monday after a 30-year-old mother of four was allegedly murdered by her husband in a shooting spree in the central Israeli city of Ramla that also left several others wounded.
Police said the suspect, whom investigators believe is mentally unstable, allegedly shot and killed his wife, Ranin al-Abid, inside the family home before opening fire on additional victims in the street. He was later arrested.
Attorney Gali Singer, deputy director-general of the Women’s Lobby, described the incident as “a horrific gender murder.”
“Since the beginning of 2026, eight women have already been murdered by their partners or relatives,” Singer said. “The circumstances of the case will still be investigated, but one thing is clear now — we must not stand by.”
Singer said violence in Israeli society, particularly in the Arab sector, has left women and children paying “the heaviest price in daily fear.”
“We warned as early as 2025 that the rates of solving murder cases in Arab society are seriously low,” she added. “The police and law enforcement agencies must act quickly and decisively to complete the investigation and bring to justice everyone involved in the murder.”
According to police, the shooting began early Monday morning when the suspect arrived at the family home with his brother. Shortly afterward, gunfire erupted inside the house while the couple’s four children were reportedly asleep, including a four-month-old baby.
Investigators said al-Abid was fatally shot inside the home. The suspect then allegedly shot his sister, seriously wounding her, before continuing into the street and firing at passersby. Two Jewish civilians were hit, one moderately wounded and the other lightly injured. A woman in a nearby car was also wounded, and another suffered light injuries from shrapnel.
All the injured were evacuated to Shamir-Assaf Harofeh Medical Center in Be’er Yaakov, where al-Abid was pronounced dead.
Police Commissioner Daniel Levy initially ordered investigators to examine whether the attack had a nationalist motive because the gunfire spread from the home into the street. However, police later said the apparent motive was criminal and linked to domestic violence.
Authorities said officers recovered the suspected murder weapon and clothing believed to have been used during the attack.
Lili Ben Ami, chief executive of the Michal Sela Forum, said the shooting illustrated how domestic violence can spill beyond the home and endanger the broader public.
“Another bloody morning of terror inside the home,” Ben Ami said. “A woman was executed in her home by her partner, and three other women were Injured in a gunfight that spilled into the street.”
“Domestic violence does not stay just within the family,” she added. “Those who think that domestic violence is a ‘private matter’ do not understand that this is a social bomb that escalates and breaks out into the streets, into the children, the community, and the security of all of us.”
Meanwhile, residents of Ramla’s Amishav neighborhood published a public letter Monday addressed to National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, demanding stronger police action against rising violence in the city.
“The recent shooting incidents in the city, which have been occurring daily in recent weeks and have resulted in the death and serious injuries of innocent women, have crossed a red line,” the residents wrote.
Calling Ben-Gvir “the address,” the residents urged the government to increase police presence and crack down on illegal firearms.
“Without clearing the streets of illegal weapons, it will not be possible to restore security,” the letter said.
