Jerusalem, 5 June, 2025 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Health Ministry issued a warning on Thursday morning after learning that a sperm donor active between 1974-1985 was a carrier of Lynch syndrome — a genetic condition that significantly increases cancer risk. The discovery was made after the donor’s recent death, prompting the ministry to urge anyone conceived via sperm donation in central Israel during that period to undergo genetic testing.
The inherited mutation, linked to cancers of the colon, uterus, and more, carries a 50% risk for offspring. The ministry stressed that early detection may be life-saving. Families are encouraged to inform affected individuals.
