Foreign Minister Saar Meets with Senior German Leaders

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar met with German Bundestag President Julia Klöckner and other senior officials in Berlin to discuss bilateral ties, Iran, Lebanon.

Jerusalem, 6 May, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar continued his official visit to Germany on Wednesday where he met senior German officials, including the President of the German Bundestag Julia Klöckner.

Sa’ar called her “a true friend of Israel, in Berlin.”

The two discussed bilateral ties, Iran, Lebanon and the importance of combating antisemitism.

Sa’ar said he described to Klöckner the purpose of the IDF’s presence in southern Lebanon: denying Hezbollah’s anti-tank guided missile attacks against our communities and its invasion plans.

He also pointed out that Israel is the only country in the region with a growing Christian population.

Sa’ar said he had a “great discussion” with Germany’s Federal Minister of Research, Technology and Space Dorothee Bär in Berlin, and that “the cooperation between Israel and Germany in science, technology, space research and beyond brings great benefit to both nations.”

Germany’s Ministry for Research, Technology and Space issued a statement calling Israel one of Germany’s “most important partners in research, innovation & space exploration. Therefore, Germany opposes any form of boycott of Israel.”

Sa’ar also met with Germany’s Interior Minister Alexander Dobrint. That ministry released a statement saying the countries have, “strong cooperation in the Cyberdome, civil protection and disaster relief, and drone defense.”
