Israel Sees Slight Drop in Traffic Fatalities in January
Israel's traffic fatalities saw a slight drop to 35 in January 2026, with a significant decrease in accidents and serious injuries reported.
Jerusalem, 24 February, 2026 (TPS-IL) — Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics reported that in January 2026, 35 people were killed in traffic accidents throughout the country. This was three fewer deaths compared to January 2025, when there were 38 deaths. However, January 2026 saw six more deaths compared to the January average in 2022-2024, which was 29.
The number of total traffic accidents in January 2026 was 472. This marked a decrease of 29.4% compared to January 2025, when there were 669 accidents and a decrease of 42.8% compared to the January monthly average in 2022-2024, which was 825 accidents.
The number of people seriously injured in traffic accidents in January 2026 was 152. This marked a decrease of 33.6% compared to January 2025, when there were 229 people seriously injured in traffic accidents and a decrease of 29.3% compared to the January average in 2022-2024, which was 215.
The total number of traffic accidents with casualties in January was 808. This marked a decrease of 31% compared to January 2025, when there were 1,171 traffic accidents with casualties, and a decrease of 44.5% compared to the January average in 2022-2024, which was 1,456.
